When Cultural Entropy is above 30%, organisations are typically in crisis. When it’s below 10%, they thrive

What if your culture isn’t broken, just afraid?

I once worked with C-Suite leadership team whose Cultural Entropy score was sitting at 48%, a clear signal that something deeper was draining their energy.

In Barrett’s framework, entropy reflects the energy lost to fear-based behaviours like control, blame, internal competition, or avoidance.
It’s not a verdict. It’s a mirror. Just like in physics, where entropy signals disorder, in culture it reveals the emotional and relational cost of misalignment, of people feeling unsafe, unseen, or unvalued.

🔺 Above 30% and the organisation is likely in crisis.
🔻 Below 10% and you tend to see trust, creativity, and performance come alive.

Over 18 months, that team shifted into the low 20s.
Not through pressure or performance hacks, 
But by slowing down. Facing what was real. Aligning with the who they were being not just what they were doing. 🙂

Yes, they even tied culture to their KPIs.
And yes, some consultants and leaders worry that kind of measurement can be gamed.
It can, if it’s done in fear.

But when it’s held with presence and care, it becomes a powerful container for growth.
A mirror that helps you see clearly, shift consciously, and lead more humanly.

This work has always resonated deeply for me.
In a former (more flexible!) life, I taught yoga. So when I first encountered Barrett’s 7 levels of consciousness, they didn’t feel conceptual, they felt true. They are quite similar to  the Chakra system.

This isn’t soft work. It’s the inner architecture of transformation.
It’s where trust begins, and performance follows.
